The Open Hearts ministry formed 2 years ago to reach out to people with special needs and their families. St. Catherine's wants to be open to all people of all abilities.
During this time, the community has been meeting monthly and following the guidelines of the Communities of Faith and Light. The meetings consist of prayer, music, Scripture, and other activities. For the past year, they have been meeting on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the same time as Generations of Faith. This has provided an opportunity for members of St. Catherine's to get to know the community better. They will continue to meet at the same time in the coming year.
In April, the Faith and Light province for the USA West, voted to include the Austin community. This is a great honor. It takes a couple of years of formation and evaluation before a community is recognized. Our next step is to encourage families and friends who have people with special needs to join the community. Open Hearts provides fun, fellowship, and support for all those involved.
