Please pray for Deacon Larry Terrell who died Wednesday morning, December 18. He was assigned for many years at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Austin. Services are as follows: Visitation today at 6 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 6300 William Cannon Drive in Austin. Vigil Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park. Funeral, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Austin with Bishop Vásquez presiding. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks.
Deacon Larry Terrell, 69, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in Austin, Texas. He was born on January 21, 1944 in Luling, Texas the son of John Tyler (J.T.) and Alcenia (Webb) Terrell.
Larry attended schools in Austin and graduated from William B. Travis High School. He continued his education at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, TX and the University of Texas at Austin.
Larry honorably served his country with the Texas National Guard as an active reservist for 25 years where he attained the highest Non-Commissioned rank in the Army, that of Command Sergeant Major of the 249th Main Support Battalion, a unit in the 49th Armored Division.
His work years included IBM, Walmart, and a staff member at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Larry was very active in St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in many lay ministries including lector, choir member, cantor, Eucharistic Minister and Baptism Preparation team. He was Ordained in 1998 to the Deaconate and served at St. Catherine of Siena parish as a Deacon until his leave of absence due to health reasons. Larry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8156 and a 4th Degree Knight in Assembly 1099.
His hobbies included fishing, camping and traveling in the RV to various locations in Texas, as well as, several trips to Colorado over the years. In 2010 he took a three month trip to Alaska. He made many life-long friends while participating in Bexar Ramblers and Happy Travelers rally groups.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife, Jeanette Terrell, whom he married, July 2, 1977; son, Philip Terrell of Corpus Christi, TX; son, Brian Terrell (Sarah) and daughters, Megan and Haley of Omaha, NE; daughter, Janice Posey and children, Bryan, Kayla and Lauren of Georgetown, TX; daughter, Deborah Hulsey (Steve), and children, Shannen and Oren of Frisco, TX; son, Duane Warnken (Cathy Galipp) and children Taylor, Caitlin and Ryan of Schulenberg, TX.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road with Bishop Joe S. Vasquez presiding. Rite of committal will follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park, Austin.
