We are so glad to get to Easter because we are exhausted from all the tragedy of the week. It’s just like watching a tragic movie, we feel every emotion. We experience every hurt. Our emotions are upended. Basically we watched someone getting pulverized to death. We see the depravity we are capable of. It was not pretty. Easter is all about new beginnings. Easter brings us a new idea. Consider Jesus of Nazareth, the one they pulverized to death. We were all there. We all saw it. There is no doubt that He died. The message comes back to us that He has risen from the dead. That just cannot be. Nobody ever in history has risen from the dead, not even Houdini. Jesus of Nazareth did. By His rising He has proclaimed to us that He is the Son of God. At the level of rational and reasoning, this is all boloney. This is Christian mythology. At the level of faith and belief, this is wonderful. Through history millions of people have testified that Jesus rose from His death. These are sane rational people who know what they are saying. What they are saying is very contentious. They know that others will ridicule them for their belief. But that doesn’t matter. We who are believers live in the realm of belief. We visit with God every day. The name of God is on our lips every day. We testify to the belief that God became Incarnate. He walked upon the earth. They killed His Incarnation but He rose from death. We should be amazed that we testify to this. We are sane rational educated people and we proclaim this. Consider the names of the great Christians throughout the ages who dedicated their lives to this. This is ridiculous. This doesn’t make sense. There are rules about these things. Well, I guess, not any more. Happy Easter y’all.
With love, Fr. Pat
