Hello! Below you will find information regarding our Tuesday weekly Faith Formation program for children in Pre-K through Grade 5. We must have catechists committed to teach a class before we will open registration for it. Please email a member of our staff to offer to serve as a catechist. Click here to email Marti or Sarah.
We are currently in need of catechists for these classes (updated on 9/21/21):
4:00 - 5:00pm
3rd grade
6:00- 7:00pm
1st grade
Please note : We will not have PreK/Kinder weekly classes this year.
Parent Requirements: Please note that we require parent involvement from EACH family during the year. For most classes, this will mean that one of the two adults in each class will be a rotating parent. The lead catechist will provide a sign-up sheet and parents will be able to choose the dates of the classes they will help in.
FAQ by Parents:
Why do I need to volunteer at all?
We ask parents to volunteer for two reasons. First, a practical one. The Diocese of Austin requires that there be 2 adults present in a classroom at all times. This is for the safety and security of both the children and the adults. Put simply, if we do not have 2 adults, we will not hold class.
The second reason we ask parents to volunteer is a pastoral one. The easiest and best way for parents to show their children the importance of our Catholic faith is to participate in it. We are the church. When you help with your child's class, not only are you modeling life long faith formation, but you will also be able to talk about what happened in class that day, and even extend the conversation at home. You can accompany your child on his or her journey of faith.
How often will I need to volunteer?
This depends on the class size. Class sizes vary between 6 to 12 children. In classes with more children, there will be more families who can volunteer so the number of volunteer times will be less. Also, the opposite is true. In smaller classes, parents will need to volunteer more often.
What if I can't volunteer during my child's class time?
We understand that in a few situations, parents may not be able to volunteer at the same time that their child is in class. For example, a parent who works until 5pm, but whose child is in the 4pm class and is dropped off by a caregiver or in a carpool, may not be able to help in their child's class. This may also apply to a parent with very young children. In this case, we have good news! We will need parent helpers at weekend events as well, such as sacrament workshops and celebrations of the sacraments. We will give you the dates and times for these events at the beginning of the Faith Formation year so that you can put them into your calendar.
Registration for all of our programs for the 2021 - 22 faith formation year will be available online August 1, 2021.
