Here is the online version of our Liturgy of the Word with Children series for the community of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin, Texas, USA. Enjoy, and may God bless you! Thank you to our awesome Liturgy of the Word with Children team, Miss Monica and Mr. Matt, Miss Connie, and Mr. Jimmy, and their children!
This ministry will not be offered in June, July, or August.
It will resume in late September at the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass.
LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN
To help children participate more fully in the Mass, the Liturgy of the Word with Children is offered during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. Children do not need to be registered to participate.
Children four years of age through elementary school age are encouraged to participate and do not have to register. Children younger than four MUST be accompanied by a parent. The materials are written for children at the second or third grade developmental level so children in kindergarten through fourth/fifth grades will gain the most from the experience.
After the opening prayer at Mass, a team of volunteers brings the children into the day chapel for their own Liturgy of the Word. The Scriptures are read from an approved text especially for children. The Psalm and Gospel Acclamation are sung. The Gospel reflection and discussion helps them to understand what God is saying and how to live the message. The children profess their faith and offer prayers from their hearts. The children then return to their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
VOLUNTEER:
Adult and teenS are encouraged to serve as prayer leaders for this ministry. The commitment is once a month serving with a team of 3 - 4 others. (Volunteers can also choose to serve every week.) Leaders share the following responsibilities with their team: proclaim the Scriptures, lead the reflection/lesson on the Gospel, lead the singing and/or music of the Psalm and the Alleluia, and lead the praying of the Creed and Prayer of the Faithful. St. Catherine will provide resources, materials, and training for leaders.
LEADER ORIENTATION: to be scheduled
Please Note: Because volunteers are still participating in Mass with the children during Liturgy of the Word and then participating in the Liturgy of the Eucharist with the main assembly, this does fulfill a volunteer's Sunday Mass obligation.
