St. Catherine's is hosting a
Dia de los Muertos altar to honor our loved ones who have passed away. This pre-Hispanic custom of remembering the deceased coincides with All Souls Day. The celebration of
Dia de los Muertos as we know it today has evolved from a blending of the traditions from the Catholic and indigenous ways.
All are welcome to bring a memento or photo of you loved one for the altar. Please leave the memento on the table in the Narthex. Clearly mark the item with your name and phone number so that it may be returned to you at a later time.
We encourage all to remember and celebrate the life of those who have passed on with an home altar for All Souls Day. Place a photo, keepsake item, candle and religious items on colorful cloth in a place of honor in your home. Create a sacred space where family history is actively preserved and where loved ones are celebrated and remembered.
The Book of the Names of the Dead in the narthex is available to record the names of all of this community's loved ones who have died and entered into eternal life. During November, we will pray during our liturgies for all people listed.
