Third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
On Sunday, July 23, the Church celebrates the Third World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. Established by Pope Francis in January 2021, this observance is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July, coinciding with the feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s parents and Jesus’ grandparents, Sts. Joachim and Anne. Pope Francis has chosen this year’s theme, “His mercy is from age to age” (Lk 1:50), reminding us of the joyful meeting between the young Mary and her elderly relative, Elizabeth. Here are a couple of ways to celebrate this day:
A Book of Blessings & Remembrance will be in the narthex during July to inscribe the names of grandparents and elderly friends, and family members (living and deceased.)
Luncheon for Grandparents and Elderly Parishioners: In honor of our grandparents and elderly parishioners, Senior Ministry will host a luncheon in the Café after the noon Mass on Thursday, July 20.
On Sunday, July 23, be sure to take a packet of wildflower seeds from the basket in the narthex. Give them to your grandparents or plant them in honor of them, holding them close to your heart.
